内容介绍 :	Newly crowned top scholar of the Ming dynasty Shi Yisheng returns home to his mother Madam Ye, who is awarded a chastity plaque, and expresses gratitude to his mentor, Uncle Zheng Sicheng. Shi's newlywed wife Madam Liu bumps into Zheng coming out from Ye's room. The mother hangs herself as a result. Liu attempts to salvage Liu's reputation by claiming that her offensive remarks directed at her in-law is to blame, which earns her the punitive death sentence by the inspector-general. The self-blaming Shi intends to poison himself in front of his mother's spirit tablet when Zheng comes to pay his respects. Consumed by anger, Shi makes him drink the poisoned wine. Zheng reveals that Shi is his natural son and his love with Ye was opposed by her snobbish father. Having committed patricide, Sheng kills himself. Liu drinks up the remaining poisoned wine.
