内容介绍 :	Hibiscus Town is a simple Chinese town surrounded by beautiful scenery. Each year, in the cool and clear days of autumn, the graceful lotus flowers stand creet and the hibicus blossoms sway in the breeze, filling the town with fragrance. Kind-hearted and pretty Hu Yuyin sells a local variety of beancurd made from rice. She works hard and lives frugally together with her husband Guigui. As a result, they save some money and finally manage to build a new house. However, this new house brings them trouble. During the "four clean- ups" movement of 1964, they are classified as new rich peasants. Their house is confiscated, and Guigui is driven to suicide. Party Secretary Li Mangeng, who was once deep in love with Hu Yuyin, and Manager of the Grain Suppy Centre Gu Yanshan are both implicated and discharged from their posts. The layabout Wang Qiushe becomes a key member in the movement, and later, during the "cultural revolution", he is made Party Secretary. Beautiful Hibiscus Town is filled with darkness and terror. Hu Yuyin is sentenced to sweep the streets every day together with the Rightist Qin Shutian, who is known as "Madman". They help each other and gradually fall in love. In the end, they get married. However, misfortunes never come singly. Qin is sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, and during a snowy winter, Hu Yuyin almost dies when she has a difficult labour. Gu Yanshan stops an army car and sends her to an army hospital, where she finally gives birth to a son. In the end, Winter gives place to Spring, and Qin Shutian returns home at last.
