| 备注 : | Director's Note : The central subject of "Old Earth" is derived from a letter of my grandfather Having moved to Canada some twenty years ago, he perceived HK/Chinese culture under a unique light In the consumerist disposable culture of HK, the obsession with speed leaves no time to recollect and nothing to remember In the letter, he questioned about the notions of 'old earth' (Low Tow) and by deconstructing the implication of out- datedness and reconstituting its contexts, he (re)wrote the meaning of 'old earth' I have come to realise a certain sense of poignancy in the text which comes to represent the profound sadness of departure Migration is a permanent physical displacement in time and space , when 'home' becomes a distancing destination In transmigration cultures, attempts are made to retain the original culture by reproducing a past Meanings of such 'reproduced' indetities are lost in the hollow process of imitation and there remains nothing left |
