内容介绍 :	A blind minstrel sings a wooden clapper song 'Why Not Return?' at the birthday banquet of the matriarch of a big family: Man Ping -sang is an army officer whose wife Chiu Ping-neung is mistreated by his foul-tempered mother. Meanwhile, Ping-sang's cousins Fong Sam-long, an ex-suitor of Ping-neung, and Ho-hing, who loves Ping- sang, conspire to break up the marriage. When Ping-neung falls ill, Sam-long colludes with a doctor who claims that Ping-neung has lung problems. He instructs the mother not to let Ping-sang get close to Ping-neung. Ping-sang is filial obedient and therefore heeds his mother's order. Ping-sang is later called out on a military expedition. Ping-neung is forced by her mother-in-law to leave the house. She departs with her maid, Chun- to, and returns to her own home. Return from a victorious expedition, Ping-sang finds his wife missing and sets out in search of her. Meanwhile, Ping-leung erects a false grave in a bid to let Ping-sang realise his filial piety and to test his love for her. Believing his wife is dead, Ping-sang is in deep grief in front of the grave. Hiding behind the grave, Ping-leung can no longer stand Ping-sang's poignancy and comes out to explain matters . Meanwhile, Ping-sang's mother, Sam-long and Ho-hing arrive. Moved by Ping-sang's love for Ping-neung, they reveal their schemes. Ping-sang's mother also allows Ping-neung to return to the family. The couple is reunited. Finishing the tale, the blind man is seen off by a moved party congregation. (Extracted from newspaper synopses.)
