内容介绍 : Lau Chi-ming and his wife, Madam Lau Ma, are a childless couple who treat his nephew Lau King-chuen and his wife, Madam Lau Wong, as their own son and daughter-in-law. The Japanese invade Guangzhou: Chi-ming flees the city with King-chuen and his wife, leaving behind his wife, Madam Ma. Madam Ma dies from a self-inflicted wound in order to preserve her chastity while Madam Wong, King-chuen's wife , gives birth to a daughter, Lo-yee, while on the run from the enemy. The refugees flee to Guilin, without any money. Madam Wong finds work in a teahouse and befriends a businessman, Lee Pak-leung. Lee falls in love with Madam Wong. One night, during a bombing raid, Chi-ming and the rest of his family, with the exception of Madam Wong, take shelter in an underground tunnel. Coming home from work in the teahouse, Madam Wong sees that the house where her family lives has been destroyed by the bombs. Thinking her family dead, Madam Wong takes solace in the arms of Lee Pak-leung. They leave Guilin and Madam Wong becomes Lee's wife. After the war, they return to Guangzhou, to lead a life of luxury. Chi-ming and the others also return to Guangzhou, to lead a life of misery, barely scraping by as street performers. One day, Lo-yee is knocked down by a car. Inside the car are none other than Lee Pak-leung and Madam Wong. On the discovery that King-chuen, Madam Wong's husband, is still alive, Pak-leung is willing to have Madam Wong return to King-chuen. However, bound by the dictates of tradition, Chi- ming rejects Madam Wong. Unable to resolve her dilemma, Madam Wong walks away heart broken. (Extracted from the film brochure.)

备注 : Writer-director's comment, 'The war is over but the misery that many people face is even greater than that during the war They have lost their homes, and must still survive on the edge of death I am not a person who blames God and Man Hence, the plot of Tears of the Returned One describes those facts that pertain after the war which we see before our eyes, several serious problems in society They are honestly depicted and offered to the wise ones of our society for study and discussion so that solutions may be found and our people may not face hunger and the misery of homelessness This is the reason why I wrote and directed this picture' (Extracted from the film brochure)
