内容介绍 : Businessman Fu Dock has lost his fortune, having been swindled. He and his wife beg for a living in another county in order to send their son Hau-chi to school. Hau-chi comes first at the imperial examination and becomes a high official. However, a feudal law stipulates that a beggar's son cannot be given a high position. Fu Dock, therefore, refuses to recognise his own son in order to protect him. Meanwhile, Hau-chi falls in love with the prime minister's daughter Ku Bik-heung but the prime minister disallows their marriage as he recognises that the prospective son-in-law comes from a poor background. At the same time, a bandit handed to Fu Dock and his wife a string of pearls stolen from the emperor. When Hau-chi is dispatched to investigate the robbery of the string of pearls, he is shocked to discover that the thieves are none other than his parents. The prime minister seizes the chance to accuse the young man of deceiving the emperor. In the end, Hau-chi chooses to quit his office and flee to another province with his parents and lover.
