内容介绍 :	The daughter of a distinguished family Fong Sau-wah falls in love with a poor novelist Sung Kar-wai, but decides to marry the rich merchant Chow Ming-kong in order to give way for Kar-wai's cousin Tong Mei who loves Kar -wai badly. But Kar-wai knows that Tong Mei is in fact his best friend Ching Chun's loved one, and has his heart solely for Sau-wah. Distressed by her marriage, he leaves Shanghai to further his studies in Beijing. Sau- wah's marriage is not a happy one. Ming-kong marries her only for her father's influence in the political arena. He, in fact, has an affair with social butterfly Mui Lai-wan. Sau-wah cannot stand that anymore and decides to leave for her parents's place. Kar-wai, meanwhile, becomes famous as a novelist and one day, on his home visit, he meets Sau-wah accidentally in a bookshop. Both are overwhelmed. Their meeting is spotted by Ming-kong and back home , Sau-wah is accused for being unfaithful. A disgraced Sau-wah attempts suicide but is saved by Kar-wai. In the end, Sau-wah leaves Ming-kong and leads her independent life as a private tutor. Kar-wai is determined to work hard for Sau-wah's sake and begins writing his novel on women's problems based on Sau-wah's life. The book is well-received when published, but Lai-wan is unhappy about the way he treats her role in the story. As revenge, she lies to Ching Chun about Kar-wai and Tong-mei's relationship. Enraged, Ching Chun tries to shoot Kar-wai during the rehearsal of his play but it is Sau-wah who catches the bullet meant for Kar-wai.
