内容介绍 :	Koo Yu-but is a traditionalist father who favours sons over daughters. Thus, he arranges to marry off his daughter, Hung-yuk, for money. He then leaves for the city with his younger son, Koo Junior, to make a living by performing opera on stage. Hung-yuk is in love with her cousin, Chan Tai-ming, but because he is poor, Yu-but looks down upon him. Tai- ming resolves to make his fortune in the city. Hung-yuk is forced into marrying Wong Siu-man, a married man whose wife, Chiu Sheung-ling, went missing during the war. Siu-man's mother is pressing him to marry again because she wants grandchildren. After the marriage, Siu-man loses his teaching job and Hung-yuk, still unable to bear children, is abused by her mother-in-law. As a result, Hung-yuk falls ill. Meanwhile, Tai- ming returns from the city having won the sweepstakes. Seeing that Hung-yuk is married, he marries Siu-man's sister to spite her. In the city, Yu-but and son meet Sheung-ling while performing on stage. Sheung-ling is impressed by Koo Junior and makes him her godson. Yu-but discovers that she is Siu-man's lost wife but keeps the truth of his identity from her. Instead, he promises Sheung-ling to return to the village to inform Siu-man that he has found Sheung-ling and persuade him to see her. Siu-man is reluctant to leave because of Hung-yuk's illness. However, he finally consents to meet his wife. After their reunion, he tells her about his second marriage and seeks her permission to bring Hung-yuk to the city for medical consultation. Sheung-ling is unforgiving and he returns to the village alone. Meanwhile, on her sickbed, Hung-yuk tells Tai-ming to remain true to his wife. Tai-ming promises to do so. He takes care of Hung-yuk's medical fees and daily needs. Hung-yuk slowly recovers. Thus, the twists and turns of life are gradually overcome. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
