内容介绍 :	Mr. Shen worked previously as a banking officer. He has a happy family with a good wife and three children. But misfortune has fallen upon him since the bank fired him. Not wanting to throw his family into depression he keeps his dismissal secret. His eldest daughter Hui-ying discovers it. She wants to ease her father's burden so she decides to quit schooling and goes out to work. Her proposal is rejected by Mr. Shen. When Mr. Shen's wife finds this out, she is worried about the future. She can only be consoled after Mr. Shen's incessant reassurance. Then Mr. Shen's long-time schoolmate gives him an assignment of paper-marking to earn a living. Mr. Shen marks the papers the whole night. In the end he feels fatigue and falls asleep. Hui-ying does not want his father to overwork himself so she marks the papers for him until dawn . As a result she is late for school. Mr. Shen scolds his daughter for her lateness. After he finds out the truth he feels sad. Father and daughter embrace and cry bitterly. Hui-ying then graduates with excellent academic results. It is obviously good news for the old father. In the meantime, Mr. Shen's past colleague Mr. Kuan proposes to cooperate with him in holding performances of popular opera. Taking this as a means of living he can then support his family. Since it is not a decent job and people may despise it so Mr. Shen hides his profession from his family. Eventually the parents of Hui-ying's boyfriend know about it. His mother is a snob and she mocks Hui-ying. Feeling wronged, Hui-ying goes home crying tearfully. Mr. Shen wants to comfort his daughter but wins no understanding from his wife and Hui-ying. In grief and indignation, he lays his heart bare to them. In the end they realizes the pains he suffers and the family is united again.
