内容介绍 :	Mang Lai-kwun is a woman who dresses up as a man in order to sit for the imperial examination. Being the very best in the examination, she becomes an imperial scholar and attracts the attention of the Prime Minister Leung Kam, who arranges for her to marry his daughter. In the bridal chamber that night, Lai-kwun discovers that the bride is her old friend So Ying-suet, who agrees to cover up Lai-kwun's true identity. However, Lai-kwun's fiance, Wongfu Siu-wah, discovers the cover-up at the royal hall and reports the matter to Emperor Shing Chung, hoping that the emperor would give approval for him to marry Lai-kwun. But the emperor, who covets her , takes no action. Lai-kwun is called upon to diagnose the Empress Dowager's illness. She prescribes a medicine that leads to her speedy recovery. Pretending to be ill, Siu-wah requests Lai-kwun to visit him at his home so that he can express his affections to her. But Lai-kwun is crossed with him. Siu-wah's sister manages to pacify her. Later, the Queen orders Lai-kwun to paint her portrait. The emperor takes the advantage of the visit, makes Lai- kwun drunk and has her quartered in the Tin Heung Chamber. But the palace maids interrupt his advances. The Empress Dowager begins to suspect Lai-kwun is a woman. She quietly orders the emperor to steal a pair of her shoes to prove her gender. Lai-kwun, upon losing her pair of shoes, discusses with Ying-suet on how to deal with the problem. The emperor appears in layman attire and threatens Lai-kwun. Lai-kwun pretends to submit to the emperor's desire. After seeking help from Siu-wah and her father, she confesses her masquerade to the royal court. The emperor is at the point of punishing Lai-kwun for deceiving him when the Empress Dowager appears and orders the emperor to pardon her since she has cured her. The Empress Dowager also makes Lai-kwun her goddaughter and approves both Lai-kwun and Ying-suet to marry Siu-wah. The emperor is angry but can do nothing about it.
