内容介绍 : Fong Siu-hung, a girl from a middle-class family, is sold by her brother Fong Sang to Ng Yat-wah as his concubine. She then becomes pregnant. Yat-wah's wife is a jealous and vindictive woman. While Yat-wah and his sister, Pik-ying, go on a trip, the wife mistreats Siu-hung. An ailing Siu-hung leaves home to look for her brother, but fails to find him. During a storm she collapses but is saved by Wong Ying-ha. After giving birth to a son, she entrusts the baby to Ying-ha, while she goes to work as a nanny in the house of businessman Lee Lok-tin, whose wife, Yuk-zhen, dies during childbirth. Lok-tin is grief-stricken. He is drawn to Siu-hung when he hears her singing the song "Poor Mother" in the garden. The two show great sympathy towards each other. Several years pass. Yat-wah and Pik-ying return home. Seeing that Siu-hung is absent, he pries the truth out of his aunt and is outraged by his wife's misdeeds. In order to teach his wife a lesson, he pretends to be dead. Pik-ying thinks his brother is dead and when she meets Siu-hung by chance, she mistakenly told her the bad news. Meanwhile, Lok-tin's father notices that Pik-ying is the splitting image of his daughter-in-law, Yuk-zhen, and wants his son to marry her. However, Lok-tin is now in love with Siu-hung, but his father is against the union because of her humble background. Unable to bear the gossip surrounding her, Siu-hung throws herself into the river, but is saved by Lok-tin. At this point, the father drops his opposition to their marriage. A double wedding is held: Lok-tin with Siu-hung, while Pik-ying is joined in matrimony with her classmate Lee Kwok-ying. Yat-wah suddenly turns up, looking for Siu-hung. Finally, Yat-wah regains his child, and Lok-tin clears the final hurdle to marry Siu- hung. (Based on viewing of the film)
