内容介绍 : Sit Tsung -ling is a fisherman with a bedridden mother and a wife in labour. He borrows money from the landlord, Sixth Uncle Wu, using the ancestral home as collateral. Meanwhile, Tsung-ling goes fishing in a storm and falls into the sea. His wife, Suk-ching, gives birth to a son, Lui-ming. When Sixth Uncle Wu demands repayment of the loan, Suk-chung is forced to sell her son to Master Lo. Tsung-ling survives his ordeal in the sea and searches for his son. When a son and a daughter are born to Master Lo, he begins to mistreat Lui-ming, who runs away to look for his parents. By coincidence, he meets Tsung-ling on the street but does not know he is his father. Tsung-ling cannot find his son but chances to meet fellow villager Old Yee, a servant in the Lo household. Feeling sorry for Lui-ming, Old yee put up the young man in his home. He approaches Sixth Uncle Wu for a loan, using his house as collateral, to buy Lui-ming's freedom. Sixth Uncle Wu agrees on condition that Lui-ming stays in his house to serve his son, Siu-ling. Ten years pass. Lui-ming meets Ming-chu , daughter of his foster-father Master Lo. They fall in love. Sixth Uncle Wu, hoping to become district chief and needing money for his campaign, wants his debtors to repay their loans. Old Yee, unable to repay, is beaten to death . Tsung-ling incurs the wrath of Sixth Uncle Wu when he speaks up against him. Wu orders Lui-ming to whip Tsung-ling. When Tsung-ling goes to the Lo household to arrange for Lo Yee's funeral, Mrs Lo recognises him and tells him that Lui-ming is his son. Lui-ming is now taken away by Uncle Wu. Tsung-ling and the oppressed fishermen storm Sixth Uncle Wu's house to rescue Lui-ming. Sixth Uncle Wu and Siu-ling flee but fall from a cliff to their death. With their oppressors destroyed, the fishermen set out to sea for a brighter day. (Extracted from the film novel.)
备注 : Based on airwave novel aired on Rediffusion RadioLiNgaw on 'Prelude to sail on to success', 'In the autumn of 1949, I was invited by Rediffusion to come to Hong Kong to narrate stories on radio using the popular music 'Sail on to success' as my opening tune Several listeners offered me an opinion saying "Why not turn 'Sail on to success' into a radio play?" And that's how, in the spring of 1951, I finally narrated the airwave novel of "Sail on to success"' (Excerpt from the film brochure)
