内容介绍 : Teacher Lui Tung-ban lives with the poor people. Crippled worker Lee Tit-kwai, fruit hawker Tso Kwok-kau, fortune-teller Cheung Kwo-lo and Nam Tsoi-wo are his neighbours. All of them earn their living in the Man Mo Temple Market. Rich businessman Lung Wong opposes a poor musician Han Sheung-tsi from courting his daughter, Lai-chu. Lung's son Sam is attracted to Ho Sin- ku, a flower girl. Sam asks manager Hon Chung-lei to hire Sin-ku as a waitress in his restaurant. Meanwhile, Sin-ku's mother falls ill, her neighbours pool money to foot her medical bills. However, the family cannot afford the charges and Sin-ku's mother dies. Tung-ban introduces Sheung-tsi to a school to take up a teaching job. Coincidentally, Lai-chu runs away from home and meets Sheung-tsi, who brings her to his place. Lai- chu, leading an independent life, sells flowers with Sin-ku. On the night of engagement between Lai-chu and Sheung-tsi, Sam appears. He wants to abduct Lai-chu, but is driven away by Tung-ban. Thus, the Lungs order the headmaster to fire Tung-ban and Sheung-tsi. They also issue orders to evict the street-sellers from the Man Mo Temple Market. To alleviate their difficulties, Sin-ku decides to take up the job in the restaurant. There, she sees through the hypocrisy of the rich clientele and resists all moral contamination and thus preserves her integrity. One night, Sam goes to the restaurant and tries to make Sin-ku drunk. Chung-lei informs the group and they converge in the restaurant to rescue Sin-ku. Realising that they should no longer stay in a society full of exploitation, the group packs and leaves for the mainland to start their new lives there. (Based on viewing of the film.)
