内容介绍 :	Cheng Dieyi was trained as a Peking opera female performer since childhood , and grows up with Duan Xiaolou in their schooling. They learn together and help each other, and Cheng develops a homosexual form of admiration for Duan. When they finish their apprenticeship, they team up together and form their own performing troupe. The Peking opera "Farewell My Concubine" brings them instant fame and success. It is then Duan has fallen in love with and married Juxien, a well-known prostitute. Cheng is frustrated but cannot express his feelings openly. He is made a lover of Master Yuan. Since then, these two fellow apprentices go their separate ways. During the war, Duan is arrested but is saved by Cheng. When the war ended, Cheng is accused of helping the enemy. In each instance, they rely on each other's help to get out from trouble and save each other's lives. The two never had the chance to perform together until their master dies, but by then the Cultural Revolution has been instigated and the two are forced to purge each other. Juxien dies amidst the struggle. After ten years of chaos and seizing the opportunity to perform on stage with Duan for the last time. Cheng uses a real sword instead of a prop and commits suicide like the heroine did in the play and dies in the arms of Duan.
