内容介绍 :	Hong Kong in the fifties. Lau Yuk-ping and her Godmother live in a western style garden house. They have quite an affluent life. However, Yuk-ping meets a cheat, Ho Kai-chung, who takes her money as well as her body. Yuk-ping sells the house for Ho. She gets pregnant with Ho's baby. In this helpless time, Godmother meets her friend Ma Shing. Ma loves Yuk-ping at first sight and rents his house to them for a little money. After giving birth to her son, Yuk-ping leaves without a word. Yuk-ping's sister, Yuk-sim, and her husband, Chan Sau-hong, therefore adopt the baby and name him Chi-kong. They bring the baby up with much difficulty. Yuk-ping marries Ma Shing and lives a wealthy life. On the other hand, Sau-hong and his family are half starving. Chi-kong, despite his young age, has to be a newspaper boy to help support the family. They are poor, yet the whole family love each other and live a happy life. At this time, Yuk-ping wants to have her son back. Sau-hong realises that they are living a belt tightening life and he even has difficulty paying Chi-kong's school fees. Sau-hong is full of anguish, yet promises Yuk-ping he will let Chi-kong go back to her, his own mother. Yuk-sim, for the same reason, Chi-kong's future, says goodbye to her son in tears.
