内容介绍 : lt is 3AD and the East Chin Dynasty rules. The Chuk family decides to marry their only daughter Ying-toi to the Ma family in a bid to strengthen its position in the imperial hierarchy. Ying-toi is sent to Shun Yee School to study, so that she will not make a fool of herself in front of her husband's family. She disguises herself as a boy but gets discovered by the school's headmistress who then arranges for her to sleep in the library. The first night in the library Ying-toi meets Leung Shan-pak who is there to by the light to study by the light. Shan-pak comes from a family which was once rich. He has to work in the school to pay his fees. He thinks that Ying-toi is nice and the two begin their friendship. Ying-toi cheats in the examination. Shan-pak helps her to study and she finally passes . Shan-pak will leave school to go for the provincial exam ination in autumn. Ying-toi feels very unhappy when she is told. She runs back to the library and drops her breast cloth which is picked up by Shan-pak. He wants to return it but gets sick after standing in the rain. Ying-toi takes care of him and the friendship grows. Shan-pak has to leave school so both are really upset. Ying-toi receives a letter from home which urges her to return right away. Ying-toi immediately informs Shan-pak, who comes back to meet her. Shan-pak has already found that Ying-toi is a girl. They go into a cave because of the rain and they make love. Shan-pak promises Ying-toi that he will ask her parents for her hand in marriage. Shan-pak comes first in the examination ination and becomes mayor of the province. He prepares gifts and goes to the Chuk family to make his proposal. Shan-pak and Ying-toi finally meet. They decide to elope and go back to school. Ying-toi's mother overhears and locks Ying-toi up. Shan-pak comes to her rescue but gets caught and is beaten up. Shan-pak falls sick. Ying -toi's mother goes to see him and begs him to write a letter to end his relation with Ying-toi. Shan-pak dies because of his illness. His mother decides to bury him in the road where Ying-toi's marriage troupe will pass by so as to fulfill his wish of seeing Ying-toi. Ying-toi has been locked up for days and is totally frustrated and desperate. When she hears of Shan-pak's death, she is so upset that her tears turn into blood. On her way to the Ma family, Ying-toi runs to Shan-pak's grave and worships him. She reads the lyrics which she writes for Shan-pak's music. Suddenly, there is an earthquake and the grave opens up and Ying-toi jumps into it .
