内容介绍 : The Song Emperor orders General Dik Ching and his "Five Tigers" generals to pacify the Western tribes. Chiu Ting-kwai leads an advance army but mistakenly invades the territory of the Sin Dan Kingdom. Retreating hastily, two of the "Five Tigers", Cheung Chung and Lee Yee are captured by General Tuk Tin Long. Failing to make peace for the release of his two captured generals, an angry Dik Ching punishes Chiu Ting-kwai with fifty strokes of the rod. Chiu Ting-kwai then penetrates the enemy territory to attempt to rescue his two colleagues. He fails but kills Tuk Tin Long. With the death of his general, the Barbarian King promotes his own daughter, Princess Sheung Yeung, as field marshal. A peerless beauty , Sheung Yeung is also skilled in the martial arts. She was a disciple of the Holy Mother of Mount Lei, who had prophesied that she would meet her marriage partner on the battle field. On receiving intelligence reports that the Song army pronounce war at the pass, Sheung Yeung goes to battle and confronts Dik Ching. Seeing that Dik Ching is handsome and brave, Sheung Yeung falls in love with him and gains the upperhand in the fight. The Barbarian King orders Dik Ching's execution but Sheung Yeung intervenes to save his life. The King is willing to marry his daughter to Dik Ching but Dik Ching is unrepentant. He relents only through the urgings of Chiu Ting-kwai. Not long after the marriage, Sheung Yeung is pregnant with their son, but Dik Ching misses his country and plans to escape with his Five Tigers. Seeing that her husband cannot be a traitor to his own country, Sheung Yeung says farewell to Dik Ching as he leaves. (Extracted from film brochure.)

备注 : Director's comment, 'We adapted the story of General Dik Ching mainly because we wanted to emphasise the integration of the central plains and the frontier tribes This is the ideal of 'one family under the same sky'' ('Why I made General Dik Ching', Wah Kiu Man Po, 1949/6/16)Film review, 'The film interprets Dik Ching's war against a foreign enemy as an invasion into the territory of a different race It gives vent to Great Han Chauvinism and its ideology of manifest destiny through the employment of vulgar and exaggerated scenes' ('Collective reviews of Cantonese cinema', Ta Kung Pao, 1949/7/25)
