内容介绍 :	Poor scholar Siu Wing-lun has to rely on a scribe's existence to survive, however, a marriage with Minister Lun's daughter, Pik-yung, has long been arranged for him. Hoping that the minister would help him financially in his quest to go to the capital to sit for the imperial examinations, Wing-lun is instead dragged to the minister's house and forced to sign a decree of divorce. When Wing-lun refuses, he is beaten up. Fortunately, Madam Lam, Pik-yung's sister-in-law, speaks up for Wing-lun and have him released. With Madam Lam's Asst., Pik- yung then resolves to help Wing-lun, making an appointment to meet him in a garden late at night when she would give him money for his passage. However, the minister catches the two and arrests Wing-lun on a false charge of smuggling. The minister then forces Governor Mui to extract a confession from Wing-lun and sentence him to death. Madam Lam and Pik-yung go to the governor's house, causing an outcry by accusing the governor of corruption and suppressing the masses. They demand Wing- lun's release and threaten to lodge an appeal to the emperor. Fearing the Lam's influence in the court as well as the minister's power, the governor lets the two women visit Wing-lun in jail. Meanwhile, another criminal who resembles Wing-lun is executed , thereby sparing Wing-lun's life. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
