内容介绍 :	Zhu Keqi has returned from his studies of Fine Arts in Europe, to the consternation of his father who wants Keqi to succeed him in business. Father and son are at loggerheads. Keqi moves out to stay with Chen Minghong, his sister's mentor, and sets about to pursue a career as a painter. There he meets Mei Liying. They fall in love and marry, though Keqi's first exhibition ends in failure. For the sake of survival, Liying finds a job as a teacher, but she is harassed by the unwanted attention of her former suitor, Shen Deming. Keqi demands that Liying resign her job while he becomes the sole breadwinner, working as an art teacher in a school for working men and women's children. However, Keqi resigns not long after as he perceives discrepancies between his style and what the students want. Next, Keqi finds a job as an editor of a lewd magazine. A disappointed Liying eventually leaves Keqi. Now left all alone and feeling miserable with his new job, Keqi is reminded of what Minghong and Liying had told him : that his paintings are too highbrow for the common taste and that an artist should be among the masses. Keqi returns to the school to look for Liying, now working there as an art teacher. Keqi resolves to become a teacher again . Having recreated himself into a new man, Keqi finally succeeds as a popular artist. (Based on viewing of the film.)
