内容介绍 :	Yang Qinde is the head of the Yang clan. He has four sons, the eldest of which is dead, leaving behind wife Shuzhen and a baby boy. Yang's second son is Changxiang, a reclusive man whose unfaithful wife is having an affair with cousin Xiong Qifang. Third son Changhui is a playboy whose wife is fond of stirring up trivial disputes. The old Mr Yang's hope lies on fourth son, Changying, who is serving in the army. On the pretext of illness, Qinde tricks Changying into returning home. Changying and Changhui are constantly at loggerheads over the latter's behaviour as a spendthrift. Changhui is put in jail for his wicked deeds. Changying next discovers that Changhui's wife has been stealing rice to send back to her family. She thus spreads malicious gossip to harm Changying. Shuzhen pins her hope on her son but the boy is sickly. She too is harmed by malicious gossip spread by Changxiang's wife and Changhui's wife and decides to retire to a nunnery. At this point, Qinde's brother Qinyi returns home and demands his share of the inheritance. Changying uses the family's remaining cash for speculation, hoping that he can pay Qinyi but fails. To Qinde's relief, Qinyi is arrested for smuggling guns. Soon Changxiang's wife is exposed as an adulteress. She leaves the child that she had with Xiong Qifang behind while she elopes with Qifang. Qinde prevents Changxiang from killing the child, but the shame is too much for Changxiang. He kills himself by hanging. (Extracted from a synopsis published in Wah Kiu Yat Po, 1948/5/30.)
