内容介绍 :	Au-yeung Chui-chu is in love with Yeung Yuk-shu but because Yuk-shu is poor, Chui-chu's father wants her to marry Chiu Ting-cheong, the only son of a landlord. Ting-cheong, however, is an opium addict. He is unable to attend his own wedding as he is under the influence. He asks the servant Ah Nam, a fellow opium addict, to take his place. Ah Fat, another servant, tries to intervene but is attacked by Ting-cheong. Ah Fat then takes revenge by reporting the case to the Anti-opium council. Both Ting-Cheong and Ah Nam are sentenced to one month's jail. On the day of their release, they have to do penance by sweeping the city's dyke. After his release, Ting-cheong is still unable to shake off his habit. In order to make him realise the error of his ways, Chui-chu and her lover Yuk-shu conspire to have Ting-cheong seduced by a social butterfly Yip Ying-lin, and to have her stealing away his fortune. However, Ying-lin not only has Ting-cheong's fortune in her pocket, but also informs against him. Ting-cheong and his servant Ah Nam serve yet another jail sentence of one year. After his release, Ting-cheong still indulges in his old habit. To raise money, he sells his own wife. Fortunately, Yuk -shu comes to the rescue but when he is recalled away to another town, Chui-chu and Chiu's Mother are left to face hard times. In order to earn money, they become domestic servants. As for Ting-cheong, he is reduced to being a masseur in an inn. One day, he sees Chui-chu being insulted by guests. Shamed and angered, Ting-cheong rushes to the opium den trying to convince addicts to stop their habit, only to bump into the drug squad carrying out a raid on the den. Ting-cheong and Ah Nam, arrested for the third time, are sentenced to death. Before the sentence is carried out, a chastened Ting-cheong decries his mother for letting him run wild.
